S5-LAN++

Ethernet for the SIMATIC S5. Plug in. Connect. Done.

Retrofitting for the SIMATIC S5: Simple, fast and without changing the software and hardware configuration directly to the Ethernet. Plugged onto the PG bus, the programming interface becomes the Ethernet connection and the S5 becomes an S7-300 for all other participants.

How to use

The upgrade to S7-300 (with CP 343-1) for any SIMATIC S5 without changing the hardware and software configuration. Unpack. Plug on. Connect. Retrofit. Support of S7-TCP/IP with PUT/GET allows the "Old Things" to be quickly integrated into the "New Things" network.

Product image of the S5-LAN.

Plugged onto the PG bus, it becomes an Ethernet port for the Industrial IoT. At the same time, the PG bus is not simply "burnt out", but becomes a "multi-bus" for all supported protocols via the integrated multiplexer. While these can be operated simultaneously in parallel, the S5 data can be accessed via WinCC, an S7 PLC (PUT/GET), a SIMATIC S7 SDK and with other S7 TCP/IP software drivers.

Advantages

  • Simple and fast networking
  • Multiplexer for all protocols
  • Integration as S7-300 (CP 343-1)
  • Access to S5 data via S7-TCP/IP with PUT/GET
  • Qualified support
  • Comprehensive documentation

Connection options

  • S5-LAN++ module directly connected to the PC
  • S5-LAN++ connected to the PC via a switch or hub
  • S5-LAN++ connection options with crosslink cable

Integration

The S5-LAN module is configured with a standard IP address at the factory. The PG interface used can thus be reached via this address. The IP address can either be permanently set (static) or obtained via a DHCP server (dynamic). Operation via a router or a gateway including DHCP function is thus possible. The configuration is easily done directly in the S5 LAN Manager (included in the scope of delivery).

Connecting paths

On the basis of the integrated TCP/IP server, the following protocols can be accessed with the control used, without hardware and software changes:

  • S7-TCP/IP with PUT/GET function
  • ISO-on-TCP (RFC 1006)
  • TCP/IP with H1/ISO-on-TCP
  • TCP/IP with RK 512

S5-LAN talks S7-TCP/IP

The implementation of access to S7-TCP/IP (according to CP 343-1) functions completely autonomously. Access to the data of the S5 controller is thus possible both in read and write mode. The necessary conversion of data types such as S5 float (in KG format) to S7 float (according to IEEE 754) takes place automatically in both directions.

For addressing even and odd byte addresses at the S5, when accessing the byte-wise addressing of the S7, it is converted as follows:

FormatSIMATIC S5SIMATIC S7
ByteMB 11MB 11
WordMW 20MW 20
WordDB10.DW 9DB10.DBW 18
WordDB10.DW 60DB10.DBW 120
ByteDB10.DL 3DB10.DBB 6
ByteDB10.DR 3DB10.DBB 7
DWordDB10.DD 25DB10.DBD 50
RealDB10.DD 35DB10.DBD 70

Addressing the S5 DX modules

The addressing of the S5-DX modules with S7-TCP/IP (according to CP 343-1) takes place according to the following scheme:

SIMATIC S5SIMATIC S7
DX 1DB 257
DX 2DB 258
......
DX 100DB 356

Addressing the S5 flag modules

The addressing of the S5 flag modules with S7-TCP/IP (according to CP 343-1) is done via the data module 'DB 1000' according to the following scheme ('x' = S flag number, 'y' = bit number):

SIMATIC S5SIMATIC S7
S x.yDB1000.DBX x.y
SY xDB1000.DBB x
SW xDB1000.DBW x
SD xDB1000.DBD x
